Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown!
Love Sudoku? Want to challenge friends or team up against others? Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer version of the classic puzzle game where you compete against other players or teams. The goal remains the same: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each column, row, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits from 1 to 9.
Before starting, choose a difficulty level (1-6, 1 being easiest, 6 hardest). This sets the initial numbers on the grid, which all players must solve simultaneously. Everyone begins with the identical puzzle.
Game Modes:
The game offers two modes, configurable in the options:
- Show Opponent's Correct Numbers: Each correctly placed number is visible to all players. Only the first player to correctly place a number earns points for that number.
- Hide Opponent's Correct Numbers: Correct numbers are not visible to other players, allowing multiple players to earn points for the same number.
Time-Outs:
Incorrectly placed numbers result in a time-out (default: 30 seconds, configurable in options), preventing the player from making further moves while others continue.
Scoring:
Correctly placed numbers earn points; the amount depends on the puzzle's difficulty level (higher level = more points). Incorrect numbers cost you half the points you would have gained for a correct placement.
Winning the Game:
The game ends when the puzzle is solved. In the mode where correct numbers are visible, the player with the most points wins. If opponent's correct numbers are hidden, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, though this doesn't grant extra points; others can still win with fewer mistakes.
Team Play vs. Individual Play:
Team play allows two teams to compete. Join a team (1 or 2); a minimum of two players per team is required. Points are added to the team's total score, and notes/filled colors are shared among teammates, facilitating collaborative solving strategies.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar under the puzzle provides tools:
- Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to empty squares. Selecting a number already present in a square removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of any square (including solved ones).
