Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a fresh trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, signaling that the release date is drawing near. Amidst the excitement for their new project, the creators have paused to honor their critically acclaimed wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international fame more than a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is celebrated for its somber and bleak ambiance, The Alters introduces a narrative that's more vibrant and frequently laced with humor, focusing on the trials faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite their contrasting tones, 11 Bit Studios underscores a deep thematic link between the two games.
Though set in vastly different worlds and atmospheres, both titles are anchored in the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the gritty realities of war, managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep a group of civilians alive within a besieged city. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a relentless race against time, with players needing to continuously maneuver their mobile base to evade a merciless sun that obliterates everything in its path.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into perilous territories in pursuit of scarce resources. The main distinction between them is in their protagonists: This War of Mine lets players lead a diverse group of civilians, whereas The Alters offers a unique ensemble of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from the very first day of its launch.
