Anbernic Halts U.S. Shipments Due to Tariff Issues

Author : Eleanor May 01,2025

Retro handheld console manufacturer Anbernic has recently announced the suspension of all U.S. orders due to "changes in U.S. tariff policies." The company advises customers to opt for products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which are currently exempt from import duties, ensuring a hassle-free purchase. Unfortunately, orders requiring shipment from China will not be processed during this period.

Anbernic is renowned for its affordable Chinese Game Boy clones. Typically, these are shipped directly from China upon release, with additional stock later stored in U.S. warehouses. On their website, customers can choose between U.S. and China shipping options. However, not all products are available for U.S. shipping, meaning that some popular items like the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H are no longer accessible to American players.

The Trump administration's imposition of tariffs, reaching up to 145% on imports from China, and the potential for tariffs on items like electric vehicles to soar to 245% when combined with existing levies, has led to increased costs. These costs are often passed on to consumers, affecting the pricing of tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.

Anbernic is actively seeking a "suitable solution" to assist customers who may face custom fees "during this transitional period."

In related news, Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 in a 60-minute Nintendo Direct this month. Originally slated for pre-orders in early April in the U.S., tariff uncertainties in both the U.S. and Canada prompted Nintendo to delay the pre-order date to April 24. Despite the delay, Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and its games but has raised prices on most Switch 2 accessories.
