Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released
A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Ubisoft games, notably impacting the Assassin's Creed franchise. While fixes are now available for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, players of Assassin's Creed Odyssey are still experiencing problems.
The Windows 11 24H2 update, boasting features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, inadvertently caused some games to malfunction. Ubisoft swiftly responded with title updates for Origins (230 MB) and Valhalla (500 MB), readily available through Steam. These patches resolve the launch and performance issues reported by players.
However, the problem persists for other Ubisoft titles. While previous fixes addressed critical issues in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin's Creed Odyssey remains affected. Players experiencing issues with Odyssey are advised to postpone updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated patch is released.
This unforeseen consequence highlights a potential flaw in the update's rollout. Reports of game incompatibility surfaced months before the official 24H2 release, yet the issue wasn't fully addressed. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Despite this setback, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update.
