Excitement is brewing in the world of animation as Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios officially announce the upcoming series, "Avatar: Seven Havens." This new addition to the beloved Avatar franchise is set to mark the 20th anniversary of "Avatar: The Last Airbender," created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. "Avatar: Seven Havens" will be a 26-episode, 2D animated series, introducing fans to a new Avatar—a young Earthbender succeeding Avatar Korra.
According to the press release from Nickelodeon, "Avatar: Seven Havens" is set in a world ravaged by a devastating cataclysm. The young Earthbender protagonist discovers her destiny as the new Avatar in an era where the title marks her as humanity's destroyer rather than its savior. Faced with threats from both human and spirit adversaries, she embarks on a journey with her long-lost twin to uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens, the last bastions of civilization.
DiMartino and Konietzko expressed their enthusiasm in a statement, saying, "When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters."
"Avatar: Seven Havens" will be divided into two seasons, each consisting of 13 episodes, forming Book 1 and Book 2. DiMartino and Konietzko are co-creating this series alongside executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. While the cast has yet to be announced, anticipation is high for this new chapter in the Avatar saga.
This marks the first mainline TV series from Avatar Studios, which is also working on a full-length animated movie set to premiere on January 30, 2026. This film will follow an adult Aang on a fresh adventure, expanding the universe even further.
As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations, Avatar Studios is also launching a variety of new books, comics, concerts, toys, and a game on Roblox to honor this significant milestone in the franchise's history.
