Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure title Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a Sony offer for PlayStation 5 exclusivity.
Pearl Abyss Prioritizes Independent Publishing for Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert Release Date and Platforms Still Under Wraps
Pearl Abyss remains committed to its self-publishing strategy for Crimson Desert. In a statement to Eurogamer, the developer confirmed its independent publishing plans, previously announced during a public earnings call. While appreciating ongoing discussions and collaborations with various partners, the company emphasized its commitment to self-publishing.
A public demonstration of Crimson Desert is planned for November. Pearl Abyss stated that no release date has been finalized, and any reports to the contrary are purely speculative. A playable build will be showcased to media this week in Paris, followed by a public unveiling at G-Star in November.
September investor meetings revealed Sony's attempt to secure PS5 exclusivity for Crimson Desert, potentially excluding Xbox platforms for a period. However, Pearl Abyss opted for self-publishing, believing it would yield greater profitability.
The final platform lineup and release date for Crimson Desert remain unconfirmed. However, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox release is anticipated around Q2 2025.
