The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world vampire RPG developed by ex-CD Projekt Red developers at Rebel Wolves, aims for The Witcher 3 level of quality, albeit in a more focused package. Discover more about this ambitious title and the creators' vision.
The Blood of Dawnwalker: Aiming for AAA Quality
30-40 Hour Main Campaign
In a conversation with GamesRadar, creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the studio's aspirations. Despite being a smaller team launching their first game, Rebel Wolves aims for AAA quality, referencing The Witcher 3 as their benchmark. When questioned about the game's classification (AA or AAA), Tomaszkiewicz stated, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."
Rebel Wolves isn't comprised of industry newcomers. The team boasts ex-CD Projekt Red developers with extensive experience on titles like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The studio's founding by Mateusz and Konrad Tomaszkiewicz stemmed from a desire for greater creative freedom than larger AAA studios offered.
Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged the smaller scope of their debut project: "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours – we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He specified a target campaign length of 30-40 hours, noting that while shorter than many AAA titles, it doesn't diminish the quality aspirations. He pointed out that some AAA games, like Call of Duty, have significantly shorter campaigns.
