Borderlands 4 boss Randy Pitchford has hinted that the game’s pre-order bundle—which includes a free Fortnite skin—might turn into a worthwhile investment. He pointed out that an earlier Borderlands skin reportedly sold for "over $2,000 in eBay trades."
In a social media post, Pitchford highlighted the Epic Games Store pre-order offer for the loot-filled shooter, which unlocks the Mad Moxxi outfit in Fortnite. However, players were quick to note that selling or trading Fortnite items violates the game’s Terms of Service and can lead to account bans.
Pitchford asked, “Is it true that the Psycho Bandit skin from the earlier pre-order became one of Fortnite’s most sought-after cosmetics, sometimes reaching over $2,000 in eBay sales? What are the chances this new bundle ends up being worth far more than the game itself?”
First, let’s clarify what Pitchford is referring to. The Psycho Bandit skin originally launched in 2019 as part of a similar Epic Games Store promotion tied to Borderlands 3. It was also briefly available in Fortnite’s item shop before being removed for an extended period.
During that absence, the skin became highly coveted among Fortnite fans. However, its perceived value dropped sharply when it returned to the item shop in April 2025, making it widely available again after a five-year gap.
While rare or discontinued Fortnite skins often spark collector interest, the game itself does not allow players to trade or sell in-game items. Instead, some attempt to buy or sell entire accounts that include rare cosmetics—a practice Epic Games explicitly prohibits under its Terms of Service, warning that it could lead to lengthy or permanent bans.
Keep all that in mind if you're considering buying Borderlands 4 mainly for the included Fortnite skin as a potential moneymaker. On the bright side, at least the game isn’t priced at $80.
Borderlands 4 arrives this Friday, September 12, on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow on October 3.
