Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead! Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role as Buffy, albeit as a recurring character. The series will focus on a new Slayer.
Adding to the excitement, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original creator Joss Whedon is not involved.
While Whedon oversaw the original series and its film predecessor, he faced accusations of creating a toxic work environment during production of *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and its spin-off, *Angel*.Plot details remain scarce beyond the focus on a new Slayer and Gellar's potential return.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight supernatural forces. Aided by friends Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Watcher Rupert Giles, she battled demons, vampires, and other creatures for seven seasons (1997-2003). The story continued through the Angel spin-off and subsequent comic books.
