Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Author : Claire May 04,2025

Capcom has cleverly teased Resident Evil 9 right in front of our eyes, blending celebration with a cryptic hint. To celebrate reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a special video on social media on April 25. In the video, Ada Wong is seen whispering to a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon faces an infected crowd, surprisingly wearing party hats as they shuffle toward a church.

The video takes an unexpected turn with a rock song playing, as Dr. Salvador amusingly strums his chainsaw like a guitar. The camera then zooms out to reveal a jubilant Leon, fist-pumping, with a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign behind him.

Attention all agents,
We've prepared a special video to express our gratitude to all of you, which we hope you'll enjoy (with sound ON)!

But here's where it gets interesting: if you turn that sign on its side, the planks form the Roman numeral "IX," which is 9. While some might dismiss this as a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank was absent in earlier parts of the video, indicating it was deliberately added. One viewer even responded, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi previously said, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
