Tentacle Tactics
Nu Udra presents a formidable challenge. Its massive tentacles grant it impressive reach, making evasion tricky. However, these very tentacles are also the most accessible targets for melee fighters. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but proceed with caution—these limbs pack a powerful punch.
Target the Mouth
Ranged weapon users have more strategic options. Prioritize attacking Nu Udra's mouth; despite its dark coloration, it boasts a 4-star weakness. The head is a viable alternative, with a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, but remains effective for blunt and cut damage.
Harness the Power of Watermoss
Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity. In addition to its devastating limb attacks, it unleashes fiery assaults. At a critical point, it even ignites itself, posing a significant Fireblight risk. Deploying Watermoss is highly recommended to mitigate this threat and enable safer attacks.
Embrace Fire Resistance
If you're struggling, equip fire-resistant gear. The Quematrice armor set, with its Fire Resistance skill, is a strong recommendation. Consider adding decorations that reduce elemental damage; the Fire Res Jewel is excellent, or utilize the Stream Jewel to enhance water-based attacks.
Evade the Grabbing Menace
Nu Udra's grab attack is particularly dangerous. If you're too close, it'll ensnare you with its tentacles, followed by a fiery blast. During the brief pause after the grab, use a knife to break free or counterattack its weak point with a Slinger.

Capturing the Black Flame

To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster to near-death (indicated by a skull icon next to its health bar). Lure it into the trap (using meat or by simply running behind it while it targets you). Once trapped, quickly use a Tranquilizer—you have approximately five seconds before it breaks free.
This comprehensive guide covers defeating and capturing Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds. This hunt is challenging solo; consider utilizing multiplayer for a smoother experience.
