Lizzy Caplan, in a recent interview with Business Insider, revealed intriguing details about the scrapped Channing Tatum Gambit movie. She described the film's concept as "a really cool idea," a '30s-style screwball romantic comedy set within the superhero universe. This aligns with comments made by producer Simon Kinberg in 2018 to IGN, who described the intended vibe as a "romantic or sex comedy," reflecting Gambit's character as a "hustler and a womanizer."
Caplan confirmed her involvement, stating that she signed on for the film, had meetings with Tatum, and that a start date was even set before the project's cancellation. The film's demise followed the 2019 Disney-Fox merger, leaving Tatum reportedly "traumatized" by the experience. His subsequent surprise cameo as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine offered a brief, unexpected return to the role after years of setbacks.
The cancellation of the Gambit film leaves the character's future uncertain, despite the confirmed arrival of the X-Men in the MCU. Speculation amongst fans was reignited last August when Ryan Reynolds tweeted a clearer version of a Deadpool & Wolverine scene, fueling hopes for Gambit's return.
