Chants of Sennaar has arrived on mobile devices! The game, developed by Rundisc and published on mobile by Playdigious, takes creative cues from titles like Heaven’s Vault and Captain Blood. Originally released in September 2023 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows, it now brings its unique appeal to a new platform.
Chants of Sennaar reimagines the biblical story of Babel through intricate puzzles and cultural exploration. It earned Best Indie Game honors at the 2024 New York Game Awards and received multiple nominations at major industry events, including The Game Awards and the BAFTAs.
Decode, Learn and Connect in Chants of Sennaar
The story draws from the Tower of Babel myth, where language is both your greatest barrier and your most vital tool. You play as the Traveler, a robed figure who awakens inside a sarcophagus at the foot of a massive ziggurat-like structure.
Each spiraling level of the tower houses a distinct culture and unique language. To move upward, you must decode these languages, repair broken ties, and bring isolated communities back together.
You'll observe, listen, and gradually compile translations in your notebook—slowly assembling meaning from symbols. The real test lies not just in deciphering codes, but in using that understanding to interact across cultures and climb higher.
Inspired by Moebius and Franco-Belgian comics, the art direction gives each floor a striking visual identity shaped by its architecture, technology, and inhabitants. The atmosphere is deepened by an original soundtrack from Thomas Brunet. Watch it in action below.
