As fans eagerly await the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, some are revisiting the classic DOOM games. The developers, not resting on their laurels, have recently rolled out an update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation that not only polishes the technical aspects but also enhances the gaming experience significantly.
One of the most exciting additions is the support for multiplayer modifications. Mods created with Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are now fully compatible, opening up a world of possibilities for community-driven content. In cooperative play, all players can now pick up items, ensuring a more cohesive and enjoyable experience. Moreover, an observer mode has been introduced, allowing players who are dead to watch the action and wait to be revived. The multiplayer network code has been optimized for smoother gameplay, and the mod loader has been upgraded to handle over the first 100+ mods a player subscribes to, making it easier to customize your DOOM experience.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, the developers are focusing on accessibility and customization. Players will have the option to adjust the aggression of demons in the settings, tailoring the game to their preferred level of challenge. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized that the aim is to make the shooter as accessible as possible, offering more customization options than any previous id Software project.
DOOM: The Dark Ages will allow players to fine-tune various elements such as enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, the amount of damage players take, game tempo, level of aggression, and parry time. Stratton also reassured fans that understanding the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal does not require prior knowledge of either game, ensuring that new players can jump right into the action without missing out on the story.
