Idris Elba Wants a Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action With Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has publicly expressed his strong desire for a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film, specifically one that reunites him with Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (which also features Reeves), Elba enthusiastically stated that a live-action adaptation featuring both himself and Reeves would be incredible. He envisions their characters together as a "Whoa" moment.
Elba's enthusiasm stems from his and Reeves' previous collaboration within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Reeves famously portrayed Johnny Silverhand, while Elba played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion.
This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is indeed developing a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project in partnership with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce a year after the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the ongoing live-action adaptation of The Witcher suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action series is a strong possibility.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Expanding its Universe
Beyond the live-action potential, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to expand. A prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's squad. The manga is currently available in several languages, with an English version expected later. Furthermore, a Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is slated for 2025, and a new animated series is also in the works.
