DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, bringing renowned Marvel writer Dan Slott back to DC.
Slott, celebrated for his work on Marvel titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, returns to DC after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity. His previous DC credits include Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures. This new series pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (known for American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.
"He's the greatest superhero, and I've waited my whole life to tell his stories," Slott stated. "Rafael Albuquerque and I will take Superman—and you—to incredible places each month. Expect surprising stories featuring Superman, Lois, familiar characters, classic villains, and brand-new adversaries. Whether you're a lifelong fan or a newcomer, Superman Unlimited #1 is the perfect entry point."
Superman Unlimited introduces a perilous new reality. A Kryptonite asteroid shower leaves the planet saturated with Green K, empowering Intergang and other foes with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. Superman must develop new technology and tactics to combat this threat. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski describes Superman Unlimited as building upon DC's Superman legacy, similar to Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. The series will deliver classic Superman adventures while introducing a significant new Kryptonite deposit. Kaminski envisions a world where even petty crimes involve Kryptonite weapons, presenting an unprecedented threat to Superman and his allies.
Kaminski further highlights the contrast between Superman Unlimited and the concurrently running Justice League Unlimited, which focuses on unlimited heroes. Superman Unlimited, in contrast, features unlimited, Kryptonite-empowered villains. Superman's adaptation and survival in this new world will be central to the narrative.
A 10-page prelude story will appear in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025), followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film (July 11).
