How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans, is one of the first major hurdles in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. This guide will walk you through his two phases.

How to Defeat Zhang Jiao: Phase 1

Phase one is a one-on-one duel in a large, open arena. Zhang Jiao uses sorcery, hurling stones at you. His attacks vary depending on your distance. Up close, he summons four stones; evade quickly. From afar, he throws eight stones in pairs – easily dodged by circling him. If caught close during his large stone attack, retreat immediately to avoid heavy damage.

While primarily a ranged fighter, Zhang Jiao has close-range combos you can parry, and an area-of-effect (AOE) attack that pushes you back. A white glow signals his charging AOE; maintain distance to avoid damage. He also has red-aura attacks that can't be interrupted. These involve a massive rockfall and clone summoning. The best strategy is to evade these until they end before resuming your assault. A sword is recommended for optimal damage output.

Manage your health carefully. Depending on your skill upgrades, you likely have limited healing opportunities. Meat buns are available in jars near the arena entrance; use them strategically between attacks.

How to Defeat Zhang Jiao: Phase 2

Unlocking Musou Rage triggers phase two, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army joins the fight, providing a respite. Use this opportunity to heal using the meat buns if needed. Zhang Jiao now summons tornadoes; be mindful of the wind to avoid being thrown off balance while fighting his troops.

After defeating enough soldiers, Zhang Jiao attempts a Grand Tactic. You must defeat 300 soldiers within a short time limit to avoid a devastating attack. He'll also summon lightning strikes; watch for the closing ring on the ground and evade when it flashes. Musou Mode is highly effective for clearing out the Yellow Turbans quickly, but standard Musou mode might be more practical given the time constraint.

Foiling Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice returns him to the battlefield with phase one tactics. With your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be significantly easier, concluding Chapter 1.

That's how to conquer Zhang Jiao in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. The game is available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
