Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just revealed an exciting lineup for Destiny 2, introducing two new expansions and significant updates under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises to deliver four major content releases, with two expansions requiring purchase and two updates available to all players.
Kicking off the year, "Rite of the Nine" is now available to everyone at no additional cost. This update offers a fresh approach to dungeon exploration, appealing to both veteran and novice players. While the dungeons—Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep—are familiar to some, expect unique twists and the chance to reconnect with Orin, along with revamped dungeon weapons.
On July 15, the new expansion, "Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate," launches, marking the beginning of a multiyear saga involving the enigmatic Nine. This paid expansion introduces new characters, including ally Lodi and the Warlock Vanguard, Ikora. Set on the new destination, Kepler, this expansion will challenge players with puzzle-solving and pathfinding, inspired by Destiny 2’s dungeons. Look forward to new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.Simultaneously on July 15, major core game innovations will be introduced. These include revamped armor and gear systems to enhance buildcrafting opportunities and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This screen allows players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, catering to different play styles and preferences. Additionally, 50 new modifiers will offer deeper gameplay customization, and curated activity rotations will keep the game fresh and engaging.

These updates come as welcome news following Bungie's layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, less than a year after another 100 layoffs.
Meanwhile, Bungie is also working on Marathon, a reboot of their classic franchise. In IGN's Marathon hands-on preview, we expressed optimism about its potential to satisfy the Bungie PvP community's long-standing desires, set to release on PC and consoles in September.
