Dune: Awakening Will Be an MMO With No Monthly Subscriptions

Dune: Awakening is set to redefine the MMO gaming landscape by launching without the burden of monthly subscriptions. The developers at Funcom have shared exciting updates about the game's upcoming full release and the various editions available for purchase. Dive into the details below to learn more about what awaits in the sands of Arrakis.

Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Dune: Awakening's journey to full release is scheduled for May 20, as confirmed by developer Funcom. This launch will bypass the early access phase, directly offering players the complete experience. In a recent Steam blog post dated March 21, Funcom elaborated on the game's business model, system requirements, and post-launch plans.

Set against the backdrop of the iconic 1965 science fiction novel, Dune: Awakening promises a multiplayer survival experience without the recurring cost of a monthly subscription. This decision sets it apart from other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online. Instead, Funcom assures that the game will evolve through free updates, introducing new content, features, and enhancements to keep the desert alive and thriving.

The studio's commitment to long-term support is bolstered by their track record with live service games. Funcom's portfolio includes Anarchy Online, celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions well beyond its initial release.

Pre-ordering any edition grants players two exclusive in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.
