Elden Ring Player Takes On Messmer Daily
New Weapon, No Hits, Same Boss
Rather than simply waiting for Elden Ring: Nightreign, one passionate fan has transformed anticipation into action. Known as chickensandwich420 on YouTube, this player has embarked on a daily quest to defeat the notoriously challenging boss, Messmer, using a different weapon each time and ensuring no hits are taken, all while playing on NG+7.
Since December 16, 2024, chickensandwich420 has been documenting this challenge on his channel. Initially, he considered tackling various bosses from FromSoftware's games but opted for Messmer due to his university commitments, stating he didn't want to spend time grinding instead of focusing on his studies.
Messmer the Impaler, the second antagonist in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is renowned for his difficulty. Players have reported needing anywhere from 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even at the highest levels with the best gear. Thus, chickensandwich420's daily challenge is nothing short of a monumental feat.
There's a twist, however—chickensandwich420 has set a deadline of June for Nightreign's release. If the game doesn't launch by then, he plans to shift his focus to other games. This means he could be facing Messmer for over 160 days. As of now, he's on day 23 of his challenge.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is a new addition to the Elden Ring universe, designed as a standalone three-player co-op adventure. Announced at The Game Awards 2024, it's expected to release in 2025. Given FromSoftware's history of delays, it remains to be seen whether chickensandwich420 will see his challenge through to Nightreign's launch or if a postponed release will mark the end of his Messmer marathon.
