Dive into the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 76 with Season 20, where players can now embrace their inner Ghoul in the radiation-soaked landscapes of Appalachia. This exciting update introduces a host of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics that allow players to completely transform their C.A.M.P. experience.
Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now
Unleash the Ghoul Within
Bethesda's latest update, announced on March 18, marks the launch of Fallout 76 Season 20, aptly named "The Ghoul Within." This season introduces the intriguing process of Ghoulification through the "Leap of Faith" questline. Players embarking on this journey will explore new areas of the Savage Divide and meet characters pivotal to their transformation.
Becoming a Ghoul unlocks exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, or "Gherks." The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, enhancing various stats depending on the Feral meter's level. However, reaching a 0% Feral meter drastically alters gameplay, boosting melee damage by 150% while significantly reducing Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and both Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy.
On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to absorb radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and causing them to emit a visible glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also synergizes with the new Gherks, enhancing the Ghoul experience.
Players can choose from 28 perks and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. However, note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as these do not align with their new physiology.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul becomes easier with the new abilities and Gherks. Yet, this transformation can make interactions with certain factions, like the Brotherhood of Steel, hostile, potentially limiting access to some questlines.
To counteract this, players can meet Jaye, a new NPC who provides disguises to access content otherwise blocked due to their Ghoul status. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, you can revert to human form through the Character Screen, though this is a permanent change. To become a Ghoul again, you'll need to purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
New and returning players can now accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost equips players with the necessary perks and enhancements to dive straight into multiplayer activities like Daily Ops, Public Events, and key story content.
Alongside the Ghoul update, Season 20 includes various bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update scheduled for April 29.
Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has evolved significantly. With consistent updates culminating in the current Season 20, the game now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of its reviews being positive. Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
