Some video games get your heart racing and your blood pressure up—that's what makes them exciting. Others have a calming effect, inducing a state of peaceful relaxation. Both types offer unique appeal.
Frike, the debut Android game from indie developer chakahacka, uniquely blends these contrasting experiences.
The objective in Frike is simple: survive as long as possible. You control a floating triangle, divided into purple, orange, and green sections. Two buttons on the left control ascent and descent, while a right-side button rotates the triangle.
While Frike features only one level, its vastness is undeniable; this single level is infinite. You'll never reach the end.
Scattered throughout Frike's atmospheric, abstract world are colored blocks (white, purple, orange, and green). Scoring involves rotating your triangle to align its corners with matching colored squares.
Colliding with too many mismatched or white squares results in your triangle's destruction. However, some squares offer bonus effects, temporarily slowing your descent, providing more time for strategic maneuvering.
Frike exemplifies a minimalist arcade-casual game. While high-score chasing can be intense, it's equally enjoyable to relax, navigate obstacles, and appreciate the game's visuals.
Beyond its understated graphics, Frike boasts a calming soundtrack of resonant chimes and metallic tones.
If this sounds appealing, Frike is available now as a free download on the Google Play Store.
