Hyper Light Breaker is packed with various resources crucial for gameplay, and among these, Golden Rations stand out as the rarest and most vital for unlocking significant upgrades. The game, however, leaves much to the imagination when it comes to understanding these resources and their sources. To help you bypass the guesswork typical of roguelike games, we've outlined where to reliably find Golden Rations.
Where to Get Golden Rations
In the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, there are primarily two ways to acquire Golden Rations: through exploration and by resetting cycles. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often contain resources for purchases or upgrades, and you might just find Golden Rations inside, indicated by the Golden Ration icon above the chest.
Areas marked with Prisms, shown by a golden diamond icon on the map, are hotspots for Golden Ration chests.
Alternatively, you can obtain Golden Rations by initiating a cycle reset. A cycle in Hyper Light Breaker corresponds to each instance of the Overgrowth, resetting when your Rez count hits zero. Upon exhausting your revives, you can choose to retry the map for resources or reset the cycle entirely at the Cursed Outpost. Scoring high enough to rank up after a reset will reward you with Golden Rations.
What are Golden Rations For?
Golden Rations play a critical role in progressing through Hyper Light Breaker. They're primarily used at your home base to unlock permanent upgrades for your characters or to access new services from vendors.
Moreover, Golden Rations are essential for unlocking Sycoms, which influence your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive ability. These items are pivotal in shaping your Breaker's playstyle, making them highly valuable.
We recommend using your first Golden Ration to purchase the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can significantly ease future runs, particularly since the game can be unforgiving to combat errors.
If you die during a run, you'll retain any resources collected, but your weapons, amps, and perks will suffer damage, risking permanent loss.
