The anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) continues to build, especially regarding its potential release on PC. While an official announcement is yet to be made, insights from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick hint at a promising future for PC gamers.
GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest
Although Grand Theft Auto 6 has not been confirmed for a PC release, recent comments from Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick suggest that it might be on the horizon. In an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Zelnick discussed the platform strategy for their upcoming titles. He noted that while Civilization 7 would launch simultaneously on console and PC, other games in their portfolio, including those from Rockstar Games, typically follow a staggered release pattern.
Zelnick pointed out, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This approach was evident with GTA 5, which initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.
While no official word has been given on GTA 6's PC release, Zelnick's comments indicate a strong interest in eventually bringing the game to PC. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous launch across all platforms, but it seems the tradition of a delayed PC release might continue.
Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms
Zelnick also highlighted the growing significance of the PC market for their games, noting that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a multiplatform game's total sales. He emphasized, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game will not only sell well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he stated.
Zelnick added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. For the latest updates on the game, be sure to visit our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Releasing on Switch 2
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about expanding their game lineup to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He mentioned their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and their willingness to support the platform when it aligns with their release strategy.
Zelnick noted a shift in Nintendo's audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already confirmed for the Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch." This suggests that fans might see more Take-Two and Rockstar titles on the Switch 2 in the future.
