Hal Jordan and John Stewart Unveiled in Lanterns First Look

Author : Jason Mar 29,2025

DC Studios has unveiled the first glimpse of their latest project, the "Lanterns" TV series, featuring not one but two Green Lanterns. HBO has released initial images showcasing Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Although the iconic emerald green suits are absent from these first looks, keen observers can spot a Power Ring adorning Chandler's hand, hinting at the superhero elements to come.

"Lanterns" is poised to be a groundbreaking addition to the DC TV lineup, crafted as a detective drama drawing inspiration from acclaimed series like "True Detective" and "Slow Horses." The narrative will follow Chandler's Hal Jordan and Pierre's John Stewart as they delve into a murder investigation that spirals into a deeper, darker mystery. This series is a confirmed component of James Gunn's expansive DC universe, which also encompasses "Creature Commando" and the eagerly awaited films "Superman" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow."

The creative minds behind "Lanterns" include Damon Lindelof, renowned for his work on "Lost," alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King. James Gunn has emphasized that the show will adopt a darker, more grounded tone, describing it as "very believable, very real," a departure from what one might typically expect from a Green Lanterns series.

Kyle Chandler, celebrated for his role in "Friday Night Lights," brings a seasoned perspective to the character of Hal Jordan. Meanwhile, Aaron Pierre, who made a notable impact with his performance in "Rebel Ridge," steps into the role of John Stewart. "Lanterns" is slated for a 2026 premiere, aligning with the release of the "Supergirl" movie, promising an exciting year for DC fans.
