League of Legends is making significant changes by bringing back Hextech Chests in response to fan feedback. Dive into the details of the upcoming update and what's on the horizon for LoL.
League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Make a Comeback
League of Legends (LoL) has listened to its community and is reintroducing Hextech Chests. On February 27, 2025, Riot Games shared a developer update on their website, complemented by a video on their YouTube channel, detailing the upcoming changes.
Riot acknowledged that their recent updates didn't meet fan expectations, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The return of Hextech Chests was a direct response to fan demand. LoL recognized the chests' importance, noting, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, players can earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, while the other two can be earned via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Fan-Inspired Changes
Riot Games also announced the delay of the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, allowing more time to ensure it meets the high standards of its core fantasy. This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see one in every Act as initially planned.
In response to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the availability of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the frequency of new champion skins for each seasonal theme.
To improve accessibility, LoL will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, following recent discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot reversed their decision to run Clash less frequently, reinstating a monthly schedule. The March Clash event will feature ARURF, followed by a standard Summoner's Rift (SR) Clash in April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return
In response to popular demand, LoL is bringing back fan-favorite shops. Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium will return, with Your Shop scheduled for patch 25.06 and the Emporium for 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these updates, Riot Games demonstrates their dedication to listening to their fans and refining League of Legends to better suit their audience. The game remains available for free-to-play on PC. Stay updated with the latest on League of Legends by visiting our dedicated page.
