Jon Bernthal's iconic portrayal of the Punisher is set to make a thrilling return following the first season of Daredevil: Born Again. Fans can look forward to a unique Marvel special that promises to deliver a high-octane experience reminiscent of the Guardians of the Galaxy style. Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Bernthal will not only star but also co-write this special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, the acclaimed director of We Own This City.
Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, shared his enthusiasm for the project, describing it as "a shotgun blast of a story" that encapsulates the intense emotion and pathos characteristic of a Frank Castle narrative. "It's so exciting," Winderbaum remarked, highlighting the anticipation surrounding this venture.

The announcement of the Punisher one-shot coincides with Marvel Television's plans to revive the Defenders on Disney+. This gritty street-level superhero team, featuring Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, was previously showcased on Netflix before being integrated into the MCU canon on Disney+.
Brad Winderbaum expressed his excitement about exploring this universe, acknowledging the challenges of translating the expansive storytelling of comic books into television. "Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it," he explained. "We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
Daredevil: Born Again, set to premiere on March 4, continues the saga that originated on Netflix. The series will see the return of beloved characters, including Bernthal's Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin. This season introduces a new threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer, Muse.
