Keanu Reeves has provided the most exciting update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, *Constantine*. Reeves, who portrayed the iconic occult detective and exorcist John Constantine, shared that the project is now at a pivotal stage with a script in development.
John Constantine, a character from DC Comics, gained widespread recognition after Reeves' performance in the original film, which followed his success in *The Matrix*. For two decades, fans and Reeves himself have expressed a desire for a sequel. Now, it appears that *Constantine 2* is closer to reality than ever before, following a successful pitch meeting at DC Studios.
Reeves confirmed to *Inverse*, "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay.’ So, we're going to try and write a script.” This development marks a significant step forward for the project, though it's important to note that the sequel has not yet been officially greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. *Constantine 2* is not currently listed as part of the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have publicly mentioned it as a possibility.
Despite the uncertainty, Reeves hinted that if *Constantine 2* does get the go-ahead, it will be set in the same universe as the original. He teased, "We're not going off that,” and humorously added, “John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
Adding to the anticipation, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed in an interview with *ComicBook* that the script for *Constantine 2* is already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough,” he said. “I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
