Image Comics provides the following synopsis for Lost Fantasy:
In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact between the two worlds occurred over a century ago due to a catastrophic natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters into our reality. Since then, elite monster slayers known as The Great Hunters have collaborated with global leaders to protect our world from the creatures lurking in the shadows. But a recent, mysterious mass killing in Montana has shattered this fragile peace, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must rise to the challenge and stop the escalating threat.
"I'm thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy—a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children with the rich world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up playing," Pires shared with IGN. "Games like the Final Fantasy series heavily influenced the design, with our protagonist's spiky hair and giant sword directly inspired by Tetsuya Nomura's iconic design for Cloud."
Pires continues, "The 'Lost' in the title is a subtle homage to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey, a criminally underrated masterpiece from Mistwalker, following his work on Final Fantasy. JRPG influences are at the very heart of this comic."
Lost Fantasy #1 will be released on April 30, 2025.
