Developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance subsidiary Nuverse, Marvel Snap unexpectedly faced a ban alongside other apps like CapCut and Lemon8. This resulted in the game's removal from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025.
While PC players can still access the game via Steam, many mobile users are reporting authorization issues. Second Dinner expressed surprise at the incident and assured players they are actively working to restore access. An official statement on Platform X confirmed: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.”
The abrupt nature of the ban, without prior warning, caused significant frustration, especially for players who continued making in-app purchases unaware of the potential lockout.
It's important to note that not all ByteDance apps were affected. Games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.
Recently, we covered the addition of the Moonstone card to Marvel Snap. This Ongoing card (4/6) offers a potentially game-changing mechanic by copying the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in its lane.
The current selection of low-cost Ongoing cards in Marvel Snap already provides a substantial pool of effects for Moonstone to copy. Unlike many inexpensive Ongoing cards, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which primarily focus on power generation, Moonstone’s ability to acquire these effects for free allows her to quickly achieve high power levels.
