Marvel Comics is set to reboot its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. The new storyline picks up after the Battle of Jakku, chronicling Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic amid galactic turmoil following the Galactic Civil War.
New Creative Team Takes the Helm
Writer Alex Segura (Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku) teams up with acclaimed artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) for this fresh take on the post-Return of the Jedi era. Noto and Leinil Yu will collaborate on variant covers for the debut issue.
Set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, the series explores the fledgling New Republic's struggle to maintain order as various factions exploit the power vacuum left by the Empire's collapse. Pirates, criminals, and new threats emerge to challenge our heroes during this transitional period.
"Blending the Familiar with the New"
"With the Galactic Civil War concluded at Jakku, we're blazing into uncharted territory with new threats and mysteries for our heroes," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These stories will deliver both the action-packed sequences and character-driven moments fans love, while introducing surprising twists to the established galaxy."
Noto shared his excitement about visualizing this untold era: "Alex has crafted incredible new storylines and characters. It's particularly thrilling to design the classic characters' appearances since no visual references exist for this specific timeline - though we're using the actors' 1980s looks as our foundation."
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, when Star Wars #1 launches as part of Star Wars Day celebrations. This won't be Marvel's only venture into the post-Jedi era - February brings Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi events.
