With the Thunderbolts making their live-action debut soon, Marvel Comics is unleashing ambitious plans for the team in print. The current team is heavily involved in the "One World Under Doom" crossover, but a brand-new Thunderbolts team will emerge shortly after the film's release.
Marvel unveiled New Thunderbolts—a series written by Sam Humphries (Uncanny X-Force) and illustrated by Ton Lima (West Coast Avengers), with cover art by Stephen Segovia. See the striking cover for issue #1 below:
The series begins with Bucky and Black Widow confronting an existential threat: Illuminati doppelgangers menacing the Marvel Universe. They assemble a formidable team to tackle this crisis, but managing such a volatile group of heroes and villains will be a monumental challenge.
"I adore every Thunderbolts iteration," Humphries shared in Marvel's press release. "I'm thrilled to continue the franchise's legacy of intense action, explosive personalities, and unexpected twists. This is a team of seven of the Marvel Universe's most formidable and unpredictable forces. Building a super-team is like curating the perfect, albeit potentially disastrous, dinner party. I envisioned a dangerous, chaotic, Marvel-esque gathering, and ran with it."
"Collaborating with Mr. Humphries and the team on this book is a blast," Lima added. "This lineup is insane! They're not here for pleasantries; the action is immediate! That's the most exciting aspect to illustrate. None of them are known for taking it easy, and neither am I."
