Minecraft Live 2025 has concluded, and Mojang has unveiled an exciting array of updates and new content for the iconic game. The first game drop of the year, named "Spring to Life," is set to launch on March 25 and promises to enhance the Overworld's biomes, making them feel more immersive and alive. Players can look forward to new variants of classic mobs like cows, pigs, and chickens, as well as fresh ambient features such as the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and the whispers of sand, adding more reasons to explore this vibrant world.
The second game drop, yet to be named, introduces the innovative Dried Ghast block. This smaller-than-average block, adorned with cute tentacles and a grumpy face, can be rehydrated to transform into a Ghastling—a baby ghast that floats around the Overworld like a balloon. Feed it snowballs, and it will grow into a Happy Ghast, which can be harnessed to carry up to four players through the skies. This feature, dubbed the Ghast harness, not only enhances gameplay but also adds a new dimension to exploration and building in Survival Mode. Mojang highlighted that the Happy Ghast will offer players a taste of Creative Mode freedom within the constraints of Survival Mode, allowing them to position and dismount from any point in the sky.
Accompanying these gameplay enhancements, Mojang announced a major visual upgrade titled "Vibrant Visuals." This update aims to transform the visual experience of Minecraft without altering gameplay, marking a significant step in the developers' vision for the game's future.
In addition to these updates, Mojang shared an exclusive clip from the upcoming "A Minecraft Movie" and announced a movie-themed in-game live event set to start on March 25. The event, taking place in Midport Village, invites players to join Steve and his movie companions in a dynamic multiplayer experience. Participants will defend the village from piglin attacks across three mini-games, running from March 25 to April 7. Completing all the challenges rewards players with the coveted Yearn cape.
During our visit to Mojang's offices in Sweden, we learned more about their philosophy on game development. Mojang confirmed they have no plans to create a Minecraft 2, shift to a free-to-play model, or employ generative AI in developing the game, emphasizing their commitment to the current game's evolution and player experience.
