Marvel Rivals' Character Popularity and the Nexus Mods Controversy
Official game data reveals interesting character popularity trends in Marvel Rivals. In "quick play," Jeff reigned supreme, outpacing Venom and Cloak & Dagger. However, competitive modes showed different favorites. On PC, Luna Snow, Cloak & Dagger, and Mantis led the pack, while console players favored Cloak & Dagger, Penny Parker, and Mantis.
A surprising twist: Mantis, despite her popularity, was also the most frequently defeated hero in competitive play, dominating on both PC and consoles, surpassing Hela, Loki, and Magic. Consoles saw a broader success, with 14 additional characters boasting win rates exceeding 50%.
Conversely, less popular characters emerged. "Quick play" saw Storm, Black Widow, and Wolverine lagging, while Nemore occupied this position in competitive modes.
The game's popularity is undeniable, demonstrated by over 500 mod submissions in a single month. This success, however, is overshadowed by a recent controversy. Nexus Mods, a popular modding site, removed modifications that replaced Captain America's head with images of Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Nexus Mods' owner, TheDarkOne, addressed the situation in a private Reddit discussion, stating that both Trump and Biden-related mods were removed simultaneously to avoid accusations of bias. This action, however, has seemingly gone unnoticed by YouTube gaming channels.
