NieR: Automata Fishing Guide: Reel in Rewards and Riches
NieR: Automata offers more than just android-machine warfare. A surprisingly lucrative, low-stress alternative is fishing! While not contributing to combat experience, fishing provides a quick and easy method for acquiring rare items and generating in-game currency without the resource expenditure of combat. This guide details how to fish and the rewards you can expect.
How to Fish in NieR: Automata
Fishing is accessible in almost any body of water, even shallow areas like those near the Resistance Camp. Simply stand still in the water; a fishing prompt will appear above your character. Holding the designated button initiates the fishing process:
- PlayStation: O button
- Xbox: B button
- PC: Enter key
After casting your pod, wait for a distinct "plop" sound signifying a bite. Don't reel in prematurely; wait for the pod to be fully submerged. Quickly press the reel-in button (same as the cast button) to secure your catch. React within a second or the fish will escape. There are no limitations on casting, so fish as much as you desire.
A helpful plug-in chip displays a fishing icon in the top-right corner when fishing is possible.
Rewards for Fishing in NieR: Automata

Most fish and junk items acquired through fishing are valuable commodities, readily sold for substantial in-game currency. This makes it an efficient early-game money-making strategy, particularly useful for expanding your plug-in chip capacity. Fishing in sewers presents a chance to obtain the Iron Pipe, a potentially powerful weapon, depending on your luck.
