Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Author : Madison May 04,2025

Nintendo has recently disclosed the pricing for upgrading two popular titles from their original Nintendo Switch versions to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is significantly higher compared to previous titles.

For instance, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double this amount per game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and a separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. These editions also offer upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices have not been officially listed on the American Nintendo eShop—potentially due to fluctuations related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than twice the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost could be linked to the $80 price tag of the full Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of both Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch counterparts, priced at $59.99 each.

Here's a look at the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games for those not opting for an upgrade:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, at the time of writing, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live on April 24, maintaining a price of $449.99. Due to overwhelming demand, Nintendo has warned U.S. customers that pre-ordering through the My Nintendo Store does not guarantee delivery on the release date.
