Genki's CES 2025 Switch 2 Mockup Reveals Key Features

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. Based on a reportedly black-market acquired unit, the mockup accurately reflects the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck.

Key features observed include magnetically attached Joy-Cons, featuring SL and SR buttons with a release mechanism, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, emphasizing their secure attachment despite the change from the original Switch's sliding rails. He also highlighted optical sensors integrated into the Joy-Con's mounting channels, hinting at potential mouse-like functionality via a yet-to-be-released accessory.

Further details emerged regarding the Switch 2's dimensions. While slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The functions of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain undisclosed. These revelations offer a compelling glimpse into the upcoming console's design and potential capabilities, fueling anticipation for its official release.
