Capcom unveils new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The trailer, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, reveals the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer highlights the game's dynamic sword combat and impressive boss encounters. While still over two years from release, the visuals and action sequences are already impressive.
Musashi's portrayal blends his renowned swordsmanship with a charismatic and humorous personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. His likeness is reportedly based on the legendary Toshiro Mifune, known for his iconic samurai roles.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
