Oscar Isaac Confirmed for Star Wars Celebration, Rumors Swirl of His Return

Author : Connor May 28,2025

The excitement among Star Wars fans is palpable as Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to make an official appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025. This event, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, has ignited speculation about the potential return of Poe Dameron to the beloved galaxy far, far away.

The announcement of Isaac's participation came via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, mirroring the precedent set by Daisy Ridley's appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where she confirmed her role in an upcoming film. This has led fans to wonder if Isaac might reveal similar news about his involvement in future Star Wars projects.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker," and since then, Isaac's sentiments towards the franchise have fluctuated. Initially expressing reluctance, citing he would only return if he needed "another house or something," his stance softened by 2022. In an interview with Variety, he expressed a neutral yet open attitude towards reprising his role, stating he had "no real feeling one way or another" and was thus "open to anything."

Isaac has also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney for rejecting his idea of a romantic storyline between Poe and Finn, played by John Boyega. He mentioned that the "overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, too, had mixed feelings about his experience with the Sequel Trilogy but has indicated openness to future roles within the franchise.

With the upcoming Rey film set to explore the rebuilding of the Jedi Order 15 years after "The Rise of Skywalker," there's growing speculation about the return of the entire main trio from the Sequel Trilogy. Ridley has already voiced her desire for Boyega to join her, and Isaac's presence could complete the reunion. While definitive answers may emerge at Star Wars Celebration 2025, fans might have to wait longer to see how these plans unfold.

This anticipation is heightened by Disney's repeated delays in releasing new Star Wars films, despite having announced over a dozen projects. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, remains undated, with the earliest possible release now set for December 17, 2027.
