Conquering Yukiko's Castle: Strategies for the Magical Magus in Persona 4 Golden

Yukiko's Castle, the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden, presents a gradual difficulty curve. While early floors are manageable, later encounters introduce the formidable Magical Magus, a powerful random enemy. This guide details its weaknesses and provides strategies for an easy victory.

Magical Magus Weaknesses and Skills

The Magical Magus primarily utilizes fire-based attacks. Equipping fire-resistant accessories, readily found in golden chests within the castle, is crucial. These accessories also prove beneficial during the final boss battle.

The Magus's key attacks are:

  • Agilao: A powerful fire-based spell that can easily wipe out unprepared party members. Guard against this attack when you see the Magus charging.
  • Hysterical Slap: A multi-hit physical attack, less potent than Agilao.

Given the Magus's fire-centric attacks, it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding, while the protagonist, the only character with access to light skills early in the game, should take the offensive.

Early-Game Persona with Light Skills: Archangel

Archangel, a level 11 Persona, is the ideal choice for this encounter. It naturally possesses Hama, an instant-kill light-elemental attack effective against the Magus's weakness. Additionally, it learns Media at level 12, a valuable healing skill for the final boss fight.

Archangel can be fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

Hama's high hit rate and instant-kill potential make the Magical Magus a surprisingly easy target. Farming this enemy for experience is viable, provided you have sufficient SP-restoring items or are comfortable entering the boss fight with reduced SP.
