Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, introduces a plethora of exciting features that enhance the gaming experience across all platforms. One of the standout additions is crossplay, allowing players to connect and play together regardless of their chosen platform. This update also introduces the Global Palbox, a revolutionary system that enables players to store their Pal data and transfer their Pals between different worlds, making the game more interconnected than ever before.
Another significant addition is the Dimensional Pal Storage, which offers a staggering 10 times the capacity of the regular Palbox. This new storage system is not only accessible to guild members but can also be utilized as personal storage with customizable private settings, providing players with more flexibility and control over their in-game assets.
The update also brings a cosmetic armor system, allowing players to change their character's appearance without impacting their armor stats. This feature, accessible through the Antique Dresser, adds a new layer of personalization to the game. Additionally, a photo mode has been introduced, enabling players to capture stunning in-game moments by hiding the UI and freely moving the camera.
For those interested in crafting, the new Drafting Table allows players to combine lower-rarity blueprints to create higher-rarity ones, enhancing the crafting experience. Moreover, dedicated servers for Mac have been added, ensuring that Mac users can enjoy a seamless gaming experience.
Alongside these major features, the update includes various specification adjustments, such as the ability to place buildings even if they overlap with a Pal, improved NPC behavior, and the addition of torches at dungeon entrances for better visibility. Balance adjustments have also been made, including changes to elemental chest rewards, increased EXP from defeating the Attack Chopper, and adjustments to weapon DPS and Pal abilities.
The UI has been improved with new sorting options, additional text size settings, and the introduction of fullscreen mode. Several new achievements have been added, encouraging players to explore more of the game's content. Numerous bug fixes have been implemented to enhance overall gameplay stability and performance.
Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has attracted an impressive 32 million players. Developer Pocketpair has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, which includes an "ending scenario" and more new content to keep the community engaged. The game's launch on Steam for $30 and its immediate availability on Game Pass for Xbox and PC broke sales and concurrent player records, demonstrating its massive popularity.
Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, noted that the game's success led to profits that were challenging to manage. In response, the company swiftly capitalized on this success by signing a deal with Sony to form Palworld Entertainment, aimed at expanding the IP and launching the game on PS5. However, the studio faces a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who allege that Palworld has infringed on multiple patent rights. Pocketpair has responded by adjusting certain game mechanics and vowing to defend their position in court.
