Fortunately, the developers have strategically placed easily-missed encounters within the main campaign offering permanent buffs, extra passive skill points, and weapon set skill points. One such encounter, the Sisters of Garukhan, provides a valuable +10% Lightning Resistance buff—twice! This guide explains how to locate and activate this crucial benefit.
Where To Find the Sisters of Garukhan
The Sisters of Garukhan shrine appears in the Spires of Deshar map, both in Act 2 and Act 2 Cruel. Interacting with the shrine grants the +10% Lightning Resistance buff. Its subtle icon on the world map makes it easy to miss.
PoE 2's map generation is random; there's no guaranteed location within Spires of Deshar. However, diligent exploration will reveal the shrine. Upon interaction, be prepared for combat—the previously inert metal automatons will activate and attack. This shrine triggers the map's automaton activation.
A helpful tip: If you reach the exit checkpoint before finding the shrine, fast travel back to the checkpoint near the shrine to avoid traversing the entire map.
Claiming Your +10% Lightning Resistance
The +10% Lightning Resistance is granted instantly upon interacting with the shrine. It's not a dropped item or a reward for defeating the automatons; activation is immediate.
Remember, the Sisters of Garukhan encounter is repeatable in Act 2 and Act 2 Cruel. Activating the shrine in both locations yields a total of +20% Lightning Resistance.
Troubleshooting: Why No Lightning Resistance Buff?
Many players are confused when their resistance values remain negative despite activating the shrine. This is due to a game mechanic: Completing each Act in PoE 2 applies a -10% debuff to all elemental resistances (Chaos Resistance is unaffected).
Therefore, after completing Act 1, activating the shrine in Act 2 nets zero Lightning Resistance (the buff cancels the debuff). In Act 2 Cruel, the shrine boosts resistance from -40% to -30%.
To verify the buff's activation, remove all equipment in the endgame. A -40% elemental resistance indicates that you've successfully completed both encounters.
