Pokémon TCG: Top Tier Decks and Cards Unveiled (Dec. 2024)

This tier list ranks the best decks in Pokémon TCG Pocket, a more casual and beginner-friendly version of the main Trading Card Game. While it's designed for casual play, a meta still exists, with some decks proving more effective than others.

Table of Contents

  • S-Tier Decks
  • A-Tier Decks
  • B-Tier Decks

S-Tier Decks

Gyarados Ex/Greninja Combo: This deck utilizes a synergistic strategy. Druddigon, with its 100 HP, acts as a sturdy defender and inflicts chip damage. Simultaneously, Greninja delivers additional chip damage, serving as a secondary attacker. Finally, Gyarados Ex finishes off opponents weakened by the chip damage. A sample deck includes: Froakie x2, Frogadier x2, Greninja x2, Druddigon x2, Magikarp x2, Gyarados Ex x2, Misty x2, Leaf x2, Professor’s Research x2, Poké Ball x2.

Pikachu Ex: Currently the top deck, Pikachu Ex boasts incredible speed and aggression. Its 90 damage output for only two Energy is highly efficient. Adding Voltorb and Electrode enhances offensive options, with Electrode's free retreat proving invaluable. A sample deck includes: Pikachu Ex x2, Zapdos Ex x2, Blitzle x2, Zebstrika x2, Poké Ball x2, Potion x2, X Speed x2, Professor’s Research x2, Sabrina x2, Giovanni x2.

Raichu Surge: While slightly less consistent than the pure Pikachu Ex deck, Raichu and Lt. Surge provide powerful surprise attacks. Zapdos Ex offers additional attacking power. Managing Energy discard from Raichu is facilitated by Lt. Surge. X Speed enables quick retreats. A sample deck includes: Pikachu Ex x2, Pikachu x2, Raichu x2, Zapdos Ex x2, Potion x2, X Speed x2, Poké Ball x2, Professor’s Research x2, Sabrina x2, Lt. Surge x2.

A-Tier Decks

Celebi Ex and Serperior Combo: The Mythical Island expansion boosted Grass-type decks. Celebi Ex, combined with Serperior's Jungle Totem ability (doubling Grass Pokémon Energy), creates high damage potential. Dhelmise offers a secondary attacker. However, Fire-type decks can easily counter this strategy. A sample deck includes: Snivy x2, Servine x2, Serperior x2, Celebi Ex x2, Dhelmise x2, Erika x2, Professor’s Research x2, Poké Ball x2, X Speed x2, Potion x2, Sabrina x2.

Koga Poison: This deck focuses on poisoning opponents and then exploiting their weakened state with Scolipede's high damage output. Weezing and Whirlipede aid in inflicting Poison, while Koga facilitates efficient Pokémon placement. Tauros serves as a powerful finisher against Ex decks. A sample deck includes: Venipede x2, Whirlipede x2, Scolipede x2, Koffing x2, Weezing x2, Tauros, Poké Ball x2, Koga x2, Sabrina, Leaf x2.

Mewtwo Ex/Gardevoir Combo: Mewtwo Ex, supported by Gardevoir, is the core of this deck. Rapid evolution of Ralts to Gardevoir is crucial to maximize Mewtwo Ex's Psydrive attack. Jynx provides stalling and early-game attacking capabilities. A sample deck includes: Mewtwo Ex x2, Ralts x2, Kirlia x2, Gardevoir x2, Jynx x2, Potion x2, X Speed x2, Poké Ball x2, Professor’s Research x2, Sabrina x2, Giovanni x2.

B-Tier Decks

Charizard Ex: Charizard Ex delivers massive damage, but its reliance on specific draws makes it less consistent. Moltres Ex aids in early-game Energy accumulation. A sample deck includes: Charmander x2, Charmeleon x2, Charizard Ex x2, Moltres Ex x2, Potion x2, X Speed x2, Poké Ball x2, Professor’s Research x2, Sabrina x2, Giovanni x2.

Colorless Pidgeot: This deck utilizes basic Pokémon with strong synergistic effects. Rattata and Raticate provide early-game damage, while Pidgeot's ability disrupts opponent strategies. A sample deck includes: Pidgey x2, Pidgeotto x2, Pidgeot, Poké Ball x2, Professor’s Research x2, Red Card, Sabrina, Potion x2, Rattata x2, Raticate x2, Kangaskhan, Farfetch’d x2.

This tier list provides a snapshot of the current Pokémon TCG Pocket meta. The effectiveness of each deck can vary depending on player skill and matchup.
