Patapon’s Spiritual Successor Ratatan Unveils New Gameplay Trailer
Trailer Features Gameplay and Boss Battle
During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan Works unveiled a captivating gameplay trailer for Ratatan, showcasing the game in action against a colossal boss crab. The trailer highlighted Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, merging rhythm-based gameplay with side-scrolling action. A standout feature is the online co-op mode that supports up to 4 players, allowing for intense multiplayer experiences with up to 100 characters in a single melee battle.
Ratatan is being crafted by the mastermind behind Patapon, Hiroyuki Kotani, alongside the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi. Launched on Kickstarter in 2023, the project successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on various gaming platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to a recent update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan's closed beta is scheduled to commence on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into the game's progress, noting that Ratatan has now surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and garnered positive feedback on their Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. Notably, the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team's focus is on refining the closed beta experience. They aim to deliver an improved demo for the Steam Next Festival in June.
Sakajiri outlined what participants can expect during the closed beta: the initial build will feature gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively throughout the test period, which will span approximately a month. Details on code distribution, start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X once confirmed.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation continues to build for this eagerly awaited title.
