Riot Partners with Lightspeed for Valorant Mobile Launch in China

Author : Sophia May 05,2025

After nearly four years of silence, Riot Games has finally announced that their popular tactical hero shooter, Valorant, is set to make its way to mobile devices. The development is being handled by Tencent's Lightspeed Studios, signaling a significant step forward for the franchise. Although an exact release date remains under wraps, the initial rollout is planned for China, with a broader release expected to follow.

Valorant, which blends the precision of Counter-Strike with the unique abilities of Overwatch, offers a thrilling 13-round 5v5 match format. In this mode, players have a single life per round, adding a layer of intensity to the game. Additionally, the inclusion of a defusal/planting objective familiar to Counter-Strike enthusiasts enhances the tactical depth of each match.

The collaboration between Riot Games and Lightspeed Studios comes as no surprise, given that both entities are under Tencent's umbrella. This partnership marks a welcome development after a long period of uncertainty about Valorant's mobile version.

ytValorantGiven the widespread use of Android in China, a multi-OS release seems almost certain. Riot has confirmed that Lightspeed is actively working on the project, and the strategy is to launch first in China.

While this news suggests a global release is on the horizon, challenges such as trade issues and smartphone availability in the mobile gaming market might delay announcements about a worldwide launch. However, fans can rest assured that Riot, Lightspeed, and Tencent are committed to bringing Valorant to mobile players everywhere.
