Genshin Impact's Wriothesley Rumored for Version 5.4 Rerun After Year-Long Wait
A recent leak suggests Wriothesley will finally return in Genshin Impact Version 5.4, over a year after his initial release. This highlights the game's ongoing challenge in balancing the large roster of over 90 playable characters with the limited rerun slots available on Event Banners. With the current system, providing each limited 5-star character a yearly rerun is virtually impossible.
While the Chronicled Banner aimed to alleviate this issue, its effectiveness remains debated. Even with this addition, characters like Shenhe experienced exceptionally long wait times before their reruns. Until the introduction of triple banners, extended wait times between character reruns are likely to persist.
Wriothesley, a Cryo Catalyst introduced in Version 4.1, exemplifies this problem. His absence since November 8, 2023, has left many players eager for his return. The leak, originating from Flying Flame, points to Version 5.4 as his comeback. This is further supported by the recent Spiral Abyss buffs that favor his playstyle.
However, caution is advised. Flying Flame's track record regarding Natlan leaks is inconsistent. While they accurately predicted the Version 5.3 Chronicled Banner, other leaks proved inaccurate.
Version 5.4 is also anticipated to feature Mizuki, potentially Inazuma's first Standard Banner character. If both Mizuki and Wriothesley share the Event Banners, the remaining 5-star slot might feature either Furina or Venti, as they are the only Archons yet to receive sequential reruns. Version 5.4's launch is expected around February 12, 2025.
