"Save $44 on Used Like-New PlayStation Portal at Amazon"

Author : Anthony Apr 11,2025

The PlayStation Portal, a unique handheld gaming accessory for the PS5, has never seen a direct discount, but savvy shoppers can now snag a used one at a reduced price. Amazon Resale currently offers PlayStation Portals in "Used: Like New" condition for just $156.02, shipped. Given that these units retail at $199 when new, this represents a 20% savings. Although a Sony warranty might not be included, Amazon Resale items still come with the same 30-day return policy as new purchases. Given their popularity, these units are expected to sell out quickly.

The device looks and functions as if it were new, with only moderate packing damage noted during inspection.

The PlayStation Portal, designed by Sony, resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller featuring an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen in the center. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device by streaming games at up to 60fps. The controller includes the same haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface as the DualSense. While it can stream games outside your home, a very stable and fast internet connection is essential. Remember, the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it requires a PS5 to operate.

Update: You no longer need a PS5 to play games on the PS Portal. Sony has introduced a feature allowing owners to stream games directly from its PlayStation Now cloud streaming service, bypassing the need for a PS5. Portal users can now choose to connect either to their PS5 or directly to Sony’s cloud servers, accessing over 120 games, including titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Note that this option requires a subscription to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 a month—a more affordable alternative to purchasing a PS5 and individual games.

While the PlayStation Portal offers a seamless way to stream PS5 games within your home, you can achieve similar functionality using the PS Remote Play app on mobile devices or other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, this setup is more complex and lacks some of the DualSense's distinctive features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy**

"The PlayStation Portal surprised me with its exceptional performance, far exceeding my initial skepticism. It offers a superior experience compared to using a phone with an attachable controller, providing the freedom to play PS5 games anywhere with reliable Wi-Fi. Although it's not a standalone device and fully dependent on a PS5, the Portal's potential is limited by its inability to connect to Wi-Fi networks requiring a web browser login and its lack of Bluetooth audio support. Despite these drawbacks, it's the best solution for PlayStation Remote Play currently available, making it a highly recommended accessory for PS5 owners looking to play on the go or share the household TV."
