Silksong Dev Hints at Switch 2 With Cake Image

Author : Lucy Apr 20,2025

It's been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight. Throughout these years, fans have eagerly awaited updates, with Silksong appearing and disappearing from various gaming showcases. At one point, Microsoft seemed to confirm a release before June 2023, but The Game Awards came and went without any news on Silksong. Now, with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, could this finally be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The excitement stems from a seemingly innocuous picture of a cake. Here's the intriguing story behind it.

Astute fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake. Pellen then tweeted: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”

At the time, rumors were swirling that Nintendo would reveal the Switch 2 on January 16, which indeed happened. Nintendo announced the Switch 2, leaving fans with many questions about the next-gen console. Was Pellen hinting at the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?

This sparked a frenzy within the Hollow Knight community. Fans reverse-searched the cake image, leading them to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published on April 2, 2024. Why is this date significant? Because Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 will air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans speculate that Pellen might have initiated an alternate reality game (ARG) for Silksong with this tweet and cake image.

The speculation doesn't end there. Fans are now trying to decipher Pellen’s new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True proposed an interesting theory: “The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of ‘everydruidwaswr.’ I think “wr” is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC.”

Adding to the mystery, Pellen's new X/Twitter name is "little bomey." Fans have pointed out that Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs. What could this mean?

It's important to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. Could Nintendo have secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this just the wild speculation of fans starved for information?

We'll have to wait a few more months to find out. In the meantime, take a look at everything announced at Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
