Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling yet for pirate multiplayer fans, thanks to a slew of major content additions. These include new modes, ships, a fearsome Kraken, and the much-anticipated feature fans have been clamoring for since the game's debut: land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the coming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory that stands out, promising to introduce the long-awaited land combat feature. Set to launch this fall, Season 3 will allow players to step away from the sea and engage in swordfights and gunfights on land. This is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to recruit skilled Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what to expect, but we'll have to wait until later this year to see the full extent of this feature.
While land combat is the highlight of Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed plenty more to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, bringing a new item ascension feature to boost loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set to launch in summer 2025, will introduce Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, slated for this winter, will feature the legendary Kraken, the Hunter's Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If all this sounds exciting enough to dive into, you're in luck. Skull and Bones will offer a free weekend from April 17 – 21, giving players a chance to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact amount has yet to be announced.
Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has not disclosed official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also led to a 200% increase in players for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
