Sony has announced an update regarding the popular limited-time PlayStation console themes for PS5, covering the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4. These nostalgic themes, featuring iconic imagery and sounds from past generations, are departing tomorrow, January 31st, 2025. However, Sony assures fans they'll be back! The positive response to the themes has prompted them to work on bringing these special designs back in the coming months.
While the return of the existing themes is welcome news, Sony has also clarified that there are currently no plans to create additional themes for the PS5 in the future. This announcement has understandably disappointed some fans who hoped for more themed options.
The temporary themes, released in celebration of PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3rd, 2024, allowed PS5 users to customize their home screens and menus with the distinct aesthetics of each console generation. The PSOne theme featured the classic console's design, the PS2 its menu structure, the PS3 its wave background, and the PS4 a similar wave pattern. All themes included the corresponding console's signature boot-up sounds, adding a significant touch of nostalgia.
